Sea Point Promenade

The Sea Point Promenade runs the length of Sea Point’s beachfront from Mouille Point to Bantry Bay. An institution in Cape Town, over the years it is becoming a public area that is used by diverse citizens. There are outdoor gyms en route, as well as kids’ playgrounds, a putt-putt course, and even an Olympic-sized pool at the Sea Point Pavillion as well as many restaurants and bars across the road, ice-cream shops and other cool hangouts. The lighthouse provides a beacon with its trademark red-and-white candy stripe look and you will also spot a number of public art installations. This is also one of the best places in the world to watch the sunset.

Recently out family has taken to renting bikes at the Pavillion, cycling to the play area at the Lighthouse or Green Point Urban Park, and then back again for ice-creams. As a couple, a brisk walk along the Promenade has been a helpful way to have those thorny and important discussions that we struggle to find time for. For me the combination of the beauty, wide open space, fresh air and community that the Promenade offers a wonderful balm for my soul.
